I went to the armory this morning to get my car at 7am. When I was there I saw the soldiers getting ready to board the bus to go to Afghanistan. I have known for 6 months that the National Guard unit from Sunnyvale, CA will be going overseas for a year. They have been preparing and I have been telling them if there is anything I can do please let me know. I have given them suggestions on things they can do because I know one of the hardest things when over there is boredom. I have volunteered to teach them how to teach ESL so they can feel like they are helping the community they are in. They all have good attitudes, they are proud to serve their country, and they feel like they are well trained. The unit is Military Police. The area they will be patrolling has been very dangerous in the past few months, there have been between 10 and 20 fatalities in that area. The soldiers were joking around and excited to get going on their mission. I wish I could do something to help them. I am proud of the soldiers in Sunnyvale!!
I drove 3 hours to Avenal today. I have liked that little town since I first visited it last year. I like the small townishness of it and the people I have met are really nice. I worked in one school which wasn't the best students I have worked with. One guy surprised me because he didn't seem like the studious type, but he got the top 25% of the country in Math! I killed 3.5 hours between schools and took LOTS of pictures. I worked at the second school and I have always liked that school. Then I drove home and watched Sarah's volleyball game! One thing I really liked about the schools in Avenal was the school district used portables and saved money by not being extravagant.
