Independence High School

Today I spent all day in one high school. Independence High School is one of the largest in California, over 4000 students. I got to the school a little early so I could sign in at the office, as a visitor. I have been there before so I knew where the office was. When I got there it was a huge office with one girl sitting alone in the middle of the office. I asked her where I needed to sign in, and she said she didn't know. I was a little surprised and said I thought I needed to. She said it wasn't necessary, she thought. I asked her if that was the school office she said yes, but they had lost many staff members. There was only one other lady in that huge office and she came out and told me that I didn't need to sign in, but if I wanted more information I could go to the attendance office. She said only 2 people worked there because the school district had cut down on the staff. She told me that the library was no longer open, they had no career center, all but the essential staff had been laid off. Is it possible for a high school not to have a library? Then I realized that times have changed, students have more information on their computer than schools have in books. The library was someplace teachers would take students to learn how to do research, or someplace teachers could send students they needed to get out of the classroom, or a place students can go to get out of the rain. I think that libraries are no longer necessary in high schools, I think elementary schools need them, and middle schools do, but high schools are not in need of libraries.
