I taught today, Saturday. I will teach tomorrow, Sunday. Next week I get a free weekend then I will work for the next three weekends then get a weekend off ... it will continue this way for the next three months at least. I feel wonderful when I teach, but then I get home and I take an hour nap, I don't realize how tired I am. I teach on weekends for the income, but also because I know I am helping people improve their lives. A past student wrote me an email to say thanks for what she learned and how much I affect people's lives, not just my students but their students and their families and on and on. I hadn't thought of that, and it made me happy.
I like the way I teach. I ensure the students get all the information they are supposed to get, and then I add a little extra. I am supposed to teach theory and management. I do that in the morning and then in the afternoon I have my students teach classes. I tell my students I want to teach them something practical, something that they can take with them when they teach. I don't want to teach them something they will forget quickly, I want them to be able to feel comfortable in front of their classes. Because it feels a little weird for them to teach native speakers, and they need the experience to teach actual students that can't speak English well I bring in ESL students. I bring in my past or present students, I also sometimes advertise on Craigslist for English as a Second Language people that would like to get free lessons and invite them to come to my class. It is a win/win situation, good for the class students and good for the guest students. It feels good to make changes to my class that helps people.
