Long Drives

Today I had to leave my house at 6:30 am and drive to Madera. I don't mind the 2 and a half hour drive because I listen to audio books on the way. I also have my computer on line all the way so if I get an email I can stop and read it. It is just like being in my office. I drive for 2.5 hours, talk to the students at a school for 45 minutes and then drive home for 2.5 hours. Today I stopped at Panda Express for an hour eating and doing emails for work so I worked for 7 hours and really only talked to people for 45 minutes. I liked the drive today, the cotton fields are being harvested so there were lots of cotton in the field. Today was a very pretty drive. I also passed a ranch that had long horns and even llamas. It was a fun drive. Tomorrow I will drive to Avenal, work at 2 schools, with a 3 hour break. I like working with the kids, I think I can make a difference in their lives.

Today one of the girls I was talking to wanted to join the Air Force. I told her I thought it was a great idea, but because she got such a high score on the ASVAB test I know she can do very well in college, so maybe it isn't a great idea for her to go away to the Air Force for 5 years then go to college and then start her life. I suggested she look into the National Guard (which I happen to work for) and maybe that will help her do what she wants to do. She wants to serve her country, like her brother and father and uncle did. She doesn't want to go into the Marines like they did, so the Air Force is her best choice.
