You're FIRED!

Yesterday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon I got called by my company and was told that I was not going to be needed after February 10th. I was a little surprised since I have been getting a lot of people lately telling me what a great job I have been doing, and people are often asking me for my help. I work for a company that has a contract with the government and I work directly for the California National Guard. My company gives me a paycheck, but the National Guard tells me what I do on a daily basis. After I was given this devastating news I tried to call my immediate supervisor, Major Williams. The Major was in a class and couldn't talk to me at that minute. I sent him a text message to tell him what I was told, and he sent me a text telling me he would look into it. He contacted his boss and found out that California was going to have their own contractor rather than the national contractor. I was thinking that it would have been nicer to know that information before the phone call from my company. The man that called me was very upset and sad for me when he called me. It is hard to tell someone they don't have a job any more when they didn't do anything wrong. To tell you the truth I sort of knew this was going to happen, but the way it happened wasn't very comfortable to me. It has happened before, it usually happens when I have my boss from 2000 miles away come to visit my office unexpectedly and tells me I must pack up a box with my stuff and escorts me off the premises. I once was called by my boss and told to go to another office in California to fire the manager, since he was on the east coast. I don't know who felt worse, me or the person that was being fired. I will be okay, I just have to wait for another company to be contracted with. (In fact while I was writing this my bosses' boss called to let me know that I would keep my job). When I was in high school I had a job as a dishwasher. I once got a paycheck for $53,440 for 2 weeks of work. I didn't understand why is was so much, then I realized I was doing a very good job and they really liked me. I enjoyed my job, and liked getting big paychecks. I showed it to a coworker and they told me it was supposed to be for $534.40. I walked back in the door and the coworker asked me why I was going to take it back, they told me I should just quit my job, because I would never make that much money if I kept my job. I walked in the door and couldn't believe someone would even think of that. When I owned a bookstore I had to hire and fire people depending on the success of the bookstore or the productivity of employee. I have 3 daughters that will have jobs in the future, I hope that they don't have to go through the kind of phone call I got yesterday!
