Old Army Junk

Nike Hercules Air Defense Missile (nuke capable)
I was in an Army museum today and it was interesting since some of the equipment was what I worked on when I was in the Army. I was in the Army from 1979 - 1988. I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 1978. As an officer you give three choices in what job you want and the Army gives you the job they need you to do, which may not be one of your choices. I was given the branch of Ordnance and the specialty of Missile Maintenance. That is no longer a specialty in the Ordnance Branch. I spent the first 9 weeks in the Army learning how the maintenance system in the Army works and the next six months learning about missile and electronic maintenance.
Pershing Missiles could carry nukes
When I was given that job I didn't even realize there were missiles in the Army. I had to deal with electronic maintenance and I had graduated as an elementary teacher. I had no background in electronics nor math. I struggled a lot during my school, but when I finished school I never was in a unit that needed what was presented. The missiles I studied about in school are not longer used in the Army. I start seeing things in museums and then I realize I belong in a museum!
