Grass Valley

Today I worked in a school in Grass Valley, California. Grass Valley is in "gold country" where gold was discovered in the 1800s. I thought the area would have large fields of grass in the area. It is in the mountains and it is a beautiful area. As I was driving into Grass Valley there were a few signs about Legalized Marijuana. That is when I realized the city has changed the name for its name to another type of plant. Grass in this case means CANNABIS not Gramineae.
