First 5K race of the new year

Before the race

Little girl passes me.
This morning I got up early and went to Palo Alto to run a 5K race. I don't like using the word "race" because I don't look at it as trying to run fast, I just want to complete it. Today's run was interesting because I went alone and because of the many families there were. I don't like people running in front of me with strollers or with dogs. I don't mind if they run, but don't start in front of me because they don't start so fast. I don't mind them passing me, which many do, I just don't like having them in front of me when I start and worrying about tripping over them. At one time two mothers that were running together passed me and the little girl, about 4, in one of them was complaining she wanted to run. As I kept running I passed the mother taking the little girl out of the stroller and they started running together. I am happy to say the 4 year old did not run past me!! At the 2 mile marker (which is how far I run when I train) I was passed by a girl that was about 5th grade. She reminded me of the pudgy little girl that is often in elementary schools that everyone teases is overweight. She passed me, I wasn't going to tease her! There was on lady that was usually in front of me, then stopped and walked, then ran passed me again. I lost her behind me about the 2.5 mile marker. My next race will be in SF on January 14, then in Pacific Grove on February 11. The last one I have planned now is in Campbell in March. I have tried to get someone to go with me, so when Lindsey decides not to go I don't go alone. I even advertised on Craigslist. Let's see if I can find anyone.

After I finished

Mothers with strollers passing me.
