When I was growing up we always ate dinner together as a family. That was the time when we really got up to date on what everyone was up to. It was also a time when we would learn about the family values and future plans. When I was married we used to have family dinners. It was nice to see the kids growing up. When we moved to Korea I was gone almost 7 days a week teaching. I didn't get a chance to really talk to the kids and their mom made a decision not to teach them English so they couldn't speak to their Dad. When we moved back to the USA the kids started speaking English, but I worked even more.
If you have read very much of what I have written you will know I love my kids very much. After my divorce I was happy to have my kids over, but we didn't usually eat dinner around a table. Usually ate out or we ate pizza while watching tv. I wish that was different, but that is what we did. I think more and more families are not eating family dinners. I hope that tradition comes back because it is really important.
