Road to nowhere |
I was in the Army from 1978 - 1988. When I was first commissioned Jimmy Carter was the president. At that time I didn't like President Carter. I thought he was ineffective and did more harm to how the world looked at our country than every before. When I accepted my commission at a Lieutenant in the United States Army I swore an oath to the President of the United States. As long as Jimmy Carter was president I followed his orders. I didn't have the right to speak out against the commander-in chief. I remember when Ronald Reagan took over as president and I was happy to follow him.

Keep following the same road |
If I was in the military right now I would have to follow that same path. I would swear an oath to the office of the president and uphold what that person says whether I agree or not. I am not a supporter of the present president, Barak Obama. I get upset and the fervor people have for him. People support him and don't have a reason for the support. They like him as a person, not because of anything he has accomplished in the four years he has been president. They talk about "Obamacare", but no one really knows what that means and it won't affect anyone for many years. It seems to me like the president is fighting what the government has done, yet he IS the government.

The road has barriers, but continues |
When the president talks to the press now it is like he has no responsibility for what the government does. He doesn't try to work with people, he only tries to tell people what they will do rather than try to persuade people and give and take. It seems like the president is ignoring all the Democrats in the Congress and not listening to anyone else. He should be the chief executive and guide others in what to do, not try to do everything himself. I don't like the president acting like a king and going on television shows to show how great he is. I would rather he do things behind the scenes rather having the spotlight on him.

Around the corner is still nothing |
I am tired of the country being so polarized. I have always said if you think you are balanced in your thinking then you have something good and something bad to say about everyone, isn't that what balanced means? I liked President Bush, but there were many things he did that I didn't like. I didn't like the federal government getting involved when a lady in Florida was in the hospital. I didn't agree that we should have our army occupy Iraq and Afghanistan after the war was won, I don't agree in "nation building". I have other things I didn't like about Bush, but when I talk to a supporter of President Obama I don't hear them recognize anything negative about his administration and I am tired of it.

Maybe the road leads to a swamp ... or a beautiful pond |
I am just glad I am not in the position of having to support and be positive about the commander-in-chief because it is harder now than it was with Jimmy Carter. President Carter was a very humble man and had much integrity. Those are traits I do not find in the present President of the United States.
