Welcome to Angels Camp, CA.
Today I drove a lot. I drove almost 3 hours east and worked at a school in a town called Angels Camp. Angels Camp is famous for having a Jumping Frog Contest in the Spring. It is a funny story how that contest got started. Mark Twain wrote a short story about some guys getting drunk in a bar and making a bet whose frog could jump the furthest. (the story can be read at: http://www.angelfire.com/nb/classillus/images/jumping/jumping.html) After the story was written people kept going to the town to find out when the next contest was going to be.
The town has a walk of fame for frogs.
This town is in the area where they used to mine for gold, so they needed to find a way to attract tourists. The big event of the year in this area is the frog jumping contest. The frog that jumps the furthest gets his name and where he is from on the Walk of Fame in downtown. Sort of like the Stars in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is also kept very realistic as an old western town with wooden sidewalks.

It is sort of like the town I grew up in, fun for tourists, but not for people that have to live there. I really enjoyed visiting and taking pictures. The school was really nice to work in, of course the high school mascot was a Bullfrog. After working there I drove 3.5 hours northwest to Clearlake. It is beautiful here and I got here right at sundown.

I have been in this area before, but never in this city. I will definitely stay here again since I like the hotel I'm staying at because it is right on the water. Tomorrow I go to the school with a drum set in the library!
