Third day of July class

On the third day of class we get more into how to teach classes that deal with specific ESL disciplines. I show my students how to teach grammar. I don't try to teach them grammar, per se, but I try to show them to teach it as something tangible rather than just having them have their students memorize definitions. I talk about how in Korea a student asked me once if a certain phrase was a "tag question". I felt strange that I was being asked about something in English that I didn't know what it meant. They used the example of, "You are going to the store, aren't you?", and "You did go home, didn't you?".
I had never heard of the term "tag question" and I wouldn't understand the definition, but I know how to use the phrase and could tell them how to construct the sentence. Teaching grammar is similar, you don't need to know the terminology to be able to teach the concept. I show how to use a time line to talk about present, simple past, and perfect tense. Most of my students start realizing what I am trying to teach them and get excited about it.
I also teach how to teach speaking and listening. I have my students work on a song sheet that I give them and they fill in the blanks as I play the song. I use the song, "Lean on Me". I then play a thing from www.theamericanstoryteller.com and show them how I use it in my class to help students improve their listening ability. We then play a game similar to Scatagories and have some competition in the classroom.
In the afternoon half of my students teach a class and the other half introduce a game they can play in a classroom.
