I am exercising outside now instead of a gym. I was running around the block for a couple of days which is one mile and now I have doubled that to around two blocks which is 2.6 miles. I always have tried to jog the whole distance, but my mind isn't really into the pain of forcing myself to go without walking. I want to loose weight and be able to run the 5 mile races I have coming up. In the past two days I have decided to try to do the distance faster, not worrying if I can run the whole distance without walking. I realized I was jogging and walking so I changed it to running and walking. I don't think it is the best way to accomplish what I want to do, but I go back to my premise of "do what you will do, don't do what you won't do".

I was jogging 2.6 miles in 39 minutes and I have gotten the 2.6 miles down to 32 minutes. The way to increase the speed is run faster, which isn't so easy, or walk less. I am getting energized by seeing the time drop even though I know it won't continue dropping quickly. When I started running with my daughter, Lindsey, she would run and walk like I am doing now as I chugged along trying to jog the entire distance. I might go back to jogging again, but for right now I will try to increase my time for the 2.6 miles and see how I do when I run the 5 mile race on June 1st in the San Jose Giant race. In August is the San Francisco Giants race and I will try to get a better time.
