Today I worked in Hercules Junior and Senior High School. It is a school that has 6th through 12th grades. As I was there I realized that would have been nice to have gone to the same school for 6 years. You don't get to be the top of the school except once, but you also don't go from the top to the bottom when you go from Junior to Senior High. It is nice in other countries that the schools are all similar, elementary schools are 1 - 5 grades, junior high (middle school) is 7 - 9, and high school is 10 - 12 grades. In the US it can be everything from one school being K - 12, some schools being K - 3, some schools being K - 5, some schools being K - 6, some schools being K - 8, Some schools being 7 - 8, some schools being 6 - 8, and lots of different combinations. It makes it hard to have anything consistent in education. It would be nice to have some consistency.
